During my studies in musicology, I also took studies in religious studies. A subject that goes hand in hand with the study of medieval music and of great interest in relation to literature. In that period I was able to analyze the relationship between metal music and faith. I talk about it with my good friend Fer Durán, a student of theology and a lover of metalcore music. Together we discuss this interesting relationship and explain the concept of "heavy worship".

I've known Frank for quite some time now: we first met in Basel when he played with Face Your Enemy, a band I love very much. His career as a professional drummer started when he became the drummer of the band Booze&Glory. In this episode he tells me about his experience as a drummer on the road, his various bands and his profession as a video maker. Don't hesitate to contact him if your band needs a video clip.

Despite sometimes being skeptical of how the Internet and social networks work the latter have led me to meet a lot of wonderful people: one of them being Fred. Boxer, music lover and dad, he immediately shared with me several opinions and bands. Together we talk about life in Alabama, how we miss live concerts and how important it is to know how to concentrate to reach a goal: like in the ring.

The Belgian hardcore scene has always seemed to me one of the most genuine! I met Davy when he came to sing with his band xVICIOUSx in Basel and we have been good friends ever since. In this episode we talk about how we live the hardcore scene nowadays, what it means to have a family and the passion that never goes away. He is also my favorite influencer!

In life you have to be able to "seize the day". I met Robin a few months ago online and it was immediately clear that we had a lot to share and this enthusiasm of hers I wanted to put on podcast. In this episode we discuss our passion for music, playing guitar and having a band. An honest and as usual inspirational chat. At the moment his band Drown In Malice is looking for a drummer - if you're interested don't hesitate to reach out.

Music To Live For With Shanti - EP. 22 - Mel Cleal - Tour Manager (CAN)
Saturday Sep 04, 2021
Saturday Sep 04, 2021
This is one of those episodes I want to frame! I have the privilege of talking to someone who has been able to inspire me on how to approach the job of tour manager and being part of a band crew. Mel has always been very kind and open in giving serious and helpful opinions. And now she's sitting in front of me and we're discussing how she got in touch with the music scene she works in, her experiences and how this scene can also be very hostile to different people, including women and the LGBTQ community. I learned a lot from this chat, thank you very much Mel.

I'm really happy to have connected with Molly! She is my youngest guest so far and is full of great ideas and passion. It was really interesting to discuss with her what music means to her now and what her future goals are. But Molly is also the singer, songwriter and hukulele in the family band Roisin Dubh where she plays with her father. Together they bring England good energy and a very sincere sound.
Song in the end: “Goodbye” by Roisin Dubh.

This is it - here is my 20th episode - a small milestone but one that makes me extremely happy.
And it could only be a drummer my 20th guest. I like it because I feel more and more connected and close to percussionists.
Nicolaj is the drummer of the Danish band Cold Night For Alligators" and together we explore the creative process in the progressive metal scene, the relationships between musicians in the small Danish scene and more. Also some interesting trivia about the artistic choices put into the upcoming album.

Music To Live For With Shanti - EP. 19 - Lost In A Detail - Post Rock (CH)
Saturday Jul 24, 2021
Saturday Jul 24, 2021
For the first time on my podcast here is an interview with a band: Lost In A Detail.
This post rock band from Zurich immediately caught my attention with a very relaxed but at times extremely energetic and dynamic sound. It was an approach of curiosity since I didn't know what to expect. And the surprise was supreme. I had the pleasure to discuss their way of composing and playing music, from the rehearsal room to the vinyl. Thank you very much Koni and Andi for this episode.
Song in the end: “don't mess up your chances” by Lost In A Detail.
